IATA - Cargo Introductory Course
Entry requirements:- Good knowledge of written English
Intended for:
- Transport and operations employees of agencies involved in international cargo air-transport
- Sales and marketing employees of cargo agencies
- Operations, sales, and reservations employees - and shippers and packers of airlines and air cargo companies
- A manufacturer’s shipping department employees, a wholesaler’s employees, importers and exporters
- Anyone wishing to work in the field of cargo air-transport
Objectives:
Participants will learn:
- How to prepare everything necessary, including reservations, for international air shipments
- How to calculate the correct rates and charges for both ordinary cargo and special cargo (special goods and rates for specific types of goods)
- How to provide clients with accurate and useful information
- How to prepare Air Waybills according to relevant IATA rules and procedures

- Module 1 - Industry Regulations, ICAO-IATA-FIATA
- Module 2 - The Air Cargo Agency, The IATA Cargo Agent, The Consolidator
- Module 3 - World Geography, IATA 3-letter codes, Time differences, Calculation of transportation times
- Module 4 - Use of Guides, The ABC Air Cargo Guide, The OAG Air Cargo Guide
- Module 5 - Aircraft, Bulk Loading Limitations, Unit Load Devices (ULD)
- Module 6 - Handling Facilities, Aircraft and cargo terminal facilities
- Module 7 - Air Cargo Acceptance
- Module 8 - Cargo Booking Procedures
- Module 9 - Cargo Automation
- Module 10 - Cargo Rates and Charges, Application of TACT (The Air Cargo Tariff)
- Module 11 - The Air Waybill, Completion - Labelling and Marking
Exams:
- Administered by the IATA Aviation and Training Development Institute on four fixed dates every year – March, June, September and December.
- Deadline for students to enroll in a course
- November for the March Exams session
- February for the June Exams session
- May for the September Exams session
- August for the December Exams session - Take place in one day
- According to the exam voucher (which a participant receives together with the study materials) each participant may choose from three offered exam dates within an 18 - month period
- May be re-tried only once
- Are administered by the local IATA coordinator in Prague
Instructors:
- Holders of the IATA/FIATA Cargo Introductory Course certificate, and an Instructor Skills Certificate
- Have experience in the field
Diploma:
- Course participants will receive an internationally valid diploma upon the successful completion (passing) of the written exam
