31. 12. 2008 - A Czech Airlines Aircraft Made a Record Flight Today from El Salvador without a Touchdown
Prague, 31 December 2008
A Czech Airlines Airbus A310 aircraft made a record flight today, from the Central American El Salvador, without a touchdown. This is the longest-ever flight without a touchdown in Czech Airlines’ history. Shortly before half past one in the afternoon, after a journey of over 10,000 kilometres and 11:05 hours of flying, the first charter flight of this year’s winter season from this destination landed in Prague, with a sufficient safety reserve of fuel.
Last season, Czech Airlines offered flights to El Salvador, but they did not include a direct flight, and on its way back, the aircraft took on passengers in another charter destination – on the island of La Isla Margarita. Starting from this winter, flights to El Salvador are planned without a touchdown on the return segment, as requested by the travel agency. On its way to El Salvador, the aircraft continues to make stops on La Isla Margarita, where some of the passengers are headed. The route of today’s record flight went from El Salvador, via Cuba and the Bermudas, carrying on to the north of the Azorean islands, to Europe. The aircraft entered continental airspace over France.
Although Czech Airlines aircraft have landed at far more remote airports, from the Asian Jakarta to Punta Arenas in Tierra del Fuego, such remote locations have, however, always been reached with a touchdown, and sometimes even several.
This winter, in addition to El Salvador, Czech Airlines is flying a series of regular flights for Czech travel agencies, to other popular tourist destinations, such as Varadero in Cuba, the Venezuelan island of La Isla Margarita, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and Cancún in Mexico. Among closer destinations, Egypt and the Canary Islands are among the most sought-after ones in the winter.
The demand for Czech Airlines‘charter flights continues to grow. In the first 11 months of 2008 alone, the number of clients carried on charter flights increased by over seven percent year-on-year, to 807,000.
