15. 12. 2009 - Czech Airlines’ Service to Frankfurt Celebrates 45 Years

Prague, 15 December 2009

Today, Czech Airlines is commemorating the 45 years since the launch of scheduled service between Prague and the German city of Frankfurt am Main.  The first flight with passengers on board was operated by the former Czechoslovak Airlines on 15 December 1964, with a Tupolev TU-124V aircraft.  The first technical flight on the route was operated on 26 November 1964.  Presently, Czech Airlines offers flights between Prague and Frankfurt twice daily, on Airbus A320, A319 and Boeing 737-500 aircraft.

The Czech Airlines service from Prague to Frankfurt and back has been used by more than 2.25 million passengers over the course of its scheduled operation.  Last year, it was nearly 103,000 passengers, constituting a year-on-year increase of more than seven percent.  Since the start of the scheduled service of the route to/from Frankfurt, Czech Airlines has also carried over 25,000 tonnes of post and cargo.  Over the years, Tupolev TU-124V, TU-104V and TU-134V-type aircraft were used on the line, which in the 1990s were replaced by aircraft from the Airbus 32S and Boeing 737 families.

The Czech Airlines air connection between Prague and Frankfurt is used primarily by business and transit passengers, both by Czech business people on their trips to Germany and German business people on their trips to the Czech Republic, as well as passengers from Germany to and from Eastern Europe.  The departure times are set such that with a transfer in Prague, they suit passengers from Russia, Central Asia, and the Caucasian Republics on their flights to Frankfurt and vice versa.

During the 2009/2010 winter flight schedule, i.e., from 25 October 2009 through 27 March 2010, Czech Airlines offers two daily flights to Frankfurt, departing from Prague at 7:20 (except Sundays) and at 17:10.  From Frankfurt, passengers can fly at 9:25 and 19:05 every day (except Saturdays).

In addition to the Frankfurt service, Czech Airlines offers flights from Prague to another seven German cities: Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich, and Stuttgart.  Czech Airlines thus offers the broadest selection of flights between the Czech Republic and Germany of all of the airlines operating to/from Prague.  Currently, Czech Airlines offers 103 weekly flights between Prague and Germany.
