15. 05. 2008 - Czech Airlines Service to Rome to Mark 70th Anniversary
Prague, May 15, 2008
On Friday, the regular connection between Prague and Italy's capital city of Rome, operated by Czech Airlines, will celebrate its seventy-year anniversary. The first flight to this destination, which was operated by the at-that-time Czechoslovak Airlines, took off for Rome on May 16, 1938. The initial service featured four stops along the route Prague – Bratislava – Klagenfurt – Trieste – Venice – Rome. Today, the airline operates two daily non-stop flights to this destination using a Boeing 737 aircraft with a seating capacity of 108 passengers. The trip from Prague to Rome lasts approximately one hour and fifty minutes.
The former Czechoslovak Airlines launched its service to Rome in a year that was marked – due to the subsequent start of World War II – an end to a promising era of growth for Czechoslovak civil aviation. Before this era of growth was interrupted, the airline's flight network included a total of 24 route segments, of which 12 were international in 1938.
Last year, Czech Airlines' service between Prague and Rome carried 120,700 passengers – a number that represented an annual growth rate of 3.2%. Czech Airlines operated a total of 710 flights between the two capitals in 2007, which was 5.8% more than in the previous year.
Prague-Rome is the busiest Czech Airlines connection between the Czech Republic and Italy. Besides flights to the Italian capital, Czech Airlines also operates two daily flights each from Prague to Venice, Bologna and Milan.
Czech Airlines service between Prague and Rome is primarily used by Italian business travelers. Early morning departures from Rome and the evening return flights make this connection suitable for one-day business trips to Prague. In combination with the noon-time
flight code-shared with Alitalia, the departure times also make these flights attractive to Czech business travelers and tourists visiting Italy.
Under its summer schedule – valid from March 30 to October 25 – Czech Airlines will be offering two daily flights to Rome, which will depart from Prague at 11:50 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. Departure times from Rome are at 7:45 a.m. and 2:25 p.m. In addition to these two daily flights, Czech Airlines passengers can also use mid-day flights code-shared with Alitalia. These flights depart from Rome at 11:40 a.m. and leave from Prague at 2:30 p.m.
