14. 11. 2008 - Czech Airlines OK Plus Frequent Flyer Programme Members Can Now Use Business Class Upgrades Even On SkyTeam Alliance Flights

Prague, 14 November 2008

Members of the Czech Airlines OK Plus Frequent Flyer Programme can newly take advantage of an upgrade for miles to Business Class, not only on Czech Airlines flights, but also those of the SkyTeam Alliance.  Starting in November, they can newly use this popular advantage, thus far only available on flights to 72 Czech Airlines destinations, on flights to nearly 900 destinations of nine SkyTeam members.  This is made possible by the launch of a new joint alliance product, the SkyTeam Mileage Upgrade.

The possibilities of the Czech Airlines OK Plus Frequent Flyer Programme will expand significantly.  Members will be newly able to use upgrades to Business Class, which is the most popular programme reward, in nearly the entire SkyTeam network, which offers connections to over 900 destinations in 169 countries,” said Czech Airlines’ Director of Loyalty Programmes, Tomáš Hrdlička.  The new programme is significant not only for Czech Airlines, but the entire SkyTeam.  “The possibility of earning and redeeming miles has always been a key advantage offered to passengers by airline alliances,” said SkyTeam’s Chairman, Leo van Wijk.  “In introducing the SkyTeam Mileage Upgrade programme, we are responding to customer demand, striving to provide an increasingly broader selection of advantages,” he added.

The possibility of using Business Class upgrades throughout almost the entire SkyTeam network, with the exception of Alitalia and Continental Airlines, is now offered to every OK Plus frequent flyer programme member.  A member can obtain an upgrade in exchange for his miles before a flight at the Contact Centre or at a Czech Airlines sales office.  For example, an OK Plus member flying on flights operated by Delta Air Lines from Prague, via Atlanta, to Los Angeles, who has an electronic full-fare economy ticket, can newly use 20,000 of his miles for an upgrade to Business Class.  At the airport and on board, he can enjoy all of the comforts and services offered to Business Class passengers, such as priority check-in, a greater free baggage allowance, access to an airport lounge and, above all, more comfort and individual service on board, during the flight.

In order of an OK Plus member to be able to take advantage of an upgrade for miles within SkyTeam, he must:

  • Purchase an international full-fare economy ticket with one of the nine participating SkyTeam member airlines.  The flight must be sold and operated by the same SkyTeam carrier (code-share flights are not included in the offer)
  • At least three days before the flight, he must call the Czech Airlines Contact Centre and check for the availability of the reward, check the balance of his account, and find out whether there are Business Class seats available.
If a passenger is eligible for this advantage, if he has the required number of miles in his account, and if there are places available in the higher class, the booking personnel will debit the miles from this account and issue him a ticket with the higher class confirmed.

Presently, Czech Airlines’ OK Plus Frequent Flyer Programme has over 355,000 members, which are up by nearly one-quarter, in a year-on-year comparison.  Real VIPs are the holders of prestigious OK Plus Platinum, Gold, and Silver Cards, to whom Czech Airlines provides above-standard customised services. Over 4,500 companies presently participate in the loyalty programme for corporate customers, OK Plus Corporate.  Members of Czech Airlines’ frequent flyer programmes include people of all ages: the youngest member is two years old and the oldest is 96.

The main advantages for passengers and members of Czech Airlines’ loyalty programmes include the possibility of obtaining reward tickets.  In addition, passengers can exchange the miles they collect for a number of other rewards: Business Class upgrades, car hire, overweight baggage, lounge access, magazine or newspaper subscriptions, a simulator or a hot-air-balloon flight, or trips with the HOLIDAYS Czech Airlines travel agency.
