13. 12. 2007 - New Czech Airlines Cabin Simulator About to Become Available for the Public "Flying without Fear" Courses
Prague, December 13, 2007
The new Airbus A320 cabin simulator, which was officially inaugurated today by Czech Airlines, will also be made available to the members of the public who sign up for its "Flying without Fear" courses. Course participants will therefore have a chance to experience the simulation of an actual flight, directly in the environment of an interactive mockup of a aircraft cabin. Members of the public will also have an opportunity to see the new simulator during organized tours of the Czech Airlines Flight Crew Training Center.
The courses are offered by Czech Airlines and scheduled approximately once every two months. Each course has no more than twenty participants and the courses last about six hours. For the academic part of the course, professional instructors with many years of experience explain the basic principles of flying and the basics of meteorology and aviation. They discuss air traffic control and the training of flight crews. The attendees are shown a documentary film on how the airline prepares for each flight and the execution of an actual flight and they are given a chance to ask any questions that they might have related to flying.
For the practical part of the course, inside the cabin simulator, the trainers provide the attendees with additional information on the process of selecting and training cabin crews and they practically demonstrate the standard activities performed by the cabin crew during a flight. They can also simulate various safety procedures used for dealing with emergency situations. The course also includes the practicing of various relaxation techniques and methods, which passengers can use to alleviate the stress caused by a fear of flying. Towards the end of the session, the participants are introduced to the work of the aircraft's pilots in the cockpit of a flight simulator for the ATR 42/72, Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 aircraft.
Czech Airlines started to offer these popular "Flying without Fear" courses at its training center in July of last year. "The vast majority of course participants have left feeling very satisfied with the course. As described by the participants, they felt as though they had 'boarded a real commercial aircraft with only a minimal amount of stress' after having completed the course," said Miloš Kvapil, who oversees flight crew training for Czech Airlines. As a follow-up to the course, Czech Airlines arranges for the assistance of an experienced cabin crew instructor during the participant's first actual flight with additional help on alleviating any mental anxiety.
