28. 11. 2006 - ČSA announces 4.7 million passengers over the first ten months

Prague November 29, 2006

Over the first 10 months of the year, Czech Airlines (ČSA) carried more than 4.7 million passengers. This was a 4.6% increase over the same period last year. Regularly scheduled flights represented the greatest share of these results, accounting for nearly four million passengers. Through October, ČSA has completed over 33,000 flights.

"We are currently undergoing a number of major changes in our sales and marketing area and these should bring a further increase in the number of passengers and a boost to total revenue. We don't expect any immediate response to these changes but we are glad for all of the positive signals affirming that we're on the right path," said Petr Řehák, Vice-President for Sales, in commenting on this year's results. While the airline's winter schedule has been in effect (since October 29), the carrier has increased the number of its flights to a number of destinations – including Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Odessa, Tallinn, Vilnius, Sofia, Sarajevo, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Bucharest.

ČSA's charter flight business has grown by nearly 15% in this same period. Between January and October of 2006, there were nearly 740,000 passengers carried on ČSA charter flights. The most frequently serviced charter destinations in these first ten months were Hurghada in Egypt, Heraklion on Crete and the Turkish resort of Antalya. In the winter season that began in late October, remote and exotic destinations such as Varadero in Cuba, the Venezuelan island of Isla Margarita and La Romana in the Dominican Republic look to be becoming the favorite charter destinations. ČSA charter flights cater to customers of both Czech and foreign travel agencies and they have been becoming increasingly popular in the international corporate sector.

The airline's freight business has also expanded in both the general cargo and mail carrying segments. Compared to the same period of last year, the volumes carried are up by 4.7%, reaching a total of nearly 19,000 tons.

ČSA also places great emphasis on the on-time performance of its flights. Over the first three quarters of the year, ČSA ranked 2nd on the list of 27 European air carriers who are members of the Association of European Airlines (AEA). In August of this year, ČSA ranked number one.
