27. 9. 2006 - ČSA Supervisory Board elected a new member of the Board of Directors

On its today’s meeting, the ČSA Supervisory Board elected Jan Janík a member of the Board of Directors, effective from 1 October. Jan Janík will also become the new Czech Airlines Vice President for Flight Operations. As a member of the Czech Airlines executive management he will participate in the implementation of the OK 2006 – 2008 Strategy.
Jan Janík (38) is a graduate of the Czech University of Technology (ČVUT), Electro-technical Faculty. After three years as Lecturer at ČVUT, in 1993 he accepted the challenge to establish a new Czech brand in the commercial sector. As Technical Director, he contributed to the growth and transformation of a small Czech company, TOMA, into a major company with annual revenue of CZK 1.6 billion. As a member of the acquisition team, he partook in the successful sale of TOMA to Pepsi Group (PCGB). He worked in various managerial positions at multinational companies outside the field of aviation, from 1999 to 2002. From 2002 to 2004, he was the Vice President of Aero Vodochody, where he was responsible for restructuring the company’s loss-generating production. He came to ČSA interested in the position of commercial pilot. In 2004, he completed standard training at ČSA and became a co-pilot on Boeing B737s. At the beginning of 2006, he completed standard pilot training for the Airbus A320. Apart from flying, he also works as a ground instructor. Jan Janík speaks English, is married, and has three children.

ČSA announced an internal selection process for the position of Vice President for Flight Operations in April and Jan Janík won it. As of 1 July he has been participating in managing the Flight Operations division. To be officially appointed vice-president, Mr. Janík needed authorisation from the Czech Civil Aviation Authority, which he received today. One of the first tasks of the new Vice President for Flight Operations will be the optimisation of structure of costs and flight crew planning.
