22. 7. 2004 - Czech Airlines Transported Almost 2 Million Passengers in the First Six Months of 2004

In the first six months of 2004 Czech Airlines (CSA) transported a record number of 1.95 million passengers. The number is 27% larger when compared with the same period of the previous year.

“Within the first six months of this year, CSA showed dynamic growth in the number of passengers flown which is unique in the history of the airline. Despite the fact that more than 50 airlines fly to and from Prague airport, CSA continues to maintain its high competitiveness,“ says Jaroslav Tvrdík, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, CSA.

In addition to a 27% year-on-year increase in the number of transported passengers, CSA showed growth in other transport indicators for the January-June period. The airline performed 14 801 flights, which represents a year-on-year increase of more than 17%. CSA also showed further increase in the seat load factor, at 70% over the January-June period.

CSA also had two-digit growth in transported cargo and mail – 11 200 tons for the January-June 2004 period, representing growth of 17%.

CSA transported the largest volume of passengers on its regular European flights, the share being 84.2%. Long-distance flights to and from North America had a share of 5.5 %. 4.6% of passengers were transported to the Middle East and Asia. Charter and domestic services represent 5.7% of the volume.

Newly operated European and Asian destinations – Samara and Yekaterinburg in Russia, Baku in Azerbaijan, Krakow in Poland, Dortmund in Germany, Marseilles in France and Luxemburg, the capital of Luxemburg also showed growth.

In April, CSA offered discounted tickets to 20 European destinations. Return tickets from as low as 2 990 CZK were available to destinations such as Amsterdam, Madrid, London, Paris, Milan, and Stockholm. This attractive offer, accompanied by the „Comfort for a Kiss“ advertising campaign, was also addressed to new clients who are used to other means of transport.

“The advertising campaign ‘Comfort for a Kiss’ lived up to our expectations. Paris, Amsterdam and Madrid were the most popular destinations and great interest in these destinations still remains,“ said Zuzana Řezníčková, Vice-president for Marketing and Sales at CSA .

This year, CSA plans to carry a record number of passengers, the estimated total for 2004 is 4.4 million.

In May, the airline won the OAG (Official Airline Guide, London) Award as “Best Airline Based in Central/Eastern Europe”. The award marked the expansion of Czech Airlines into Europe when the Czech Republic joined the European Union.
