12. 4. 2007 - Czech Airlines’ OK Plus Loyalty Programme Celebrates 15 Years

On Sunday 15 April 2007, Czech Airlines’ (CSA) loyalty programme OK Plus will celebrate its 15th anniversary.  With OK Plus, CSA has one of the oldest loyalty programmes among European airlines.  Furthermore, CSA’s OK Plus is interconnected with the loyalty programmes of the other nine airlines associated in the SkyTeam alliance, enabling passengers to collect miles or use bonus tickets throughout the entire network of the alliance.  OK Plus currently has some 215,000 active members and is one of the most prestigious loyalty programmes in the country, with international application.  The youngest member at the moment is two years old, the oldest is 97.

In the OK Plus programme, clients can not only collect miles for flying with CSA or its partner airlines from the SkyTeam alliance, but also for using the services of non-airline partners worldwide.  Non-airline partners include international car hire companies, hotel chains, credit card issuers, telecommunications companies, restaurants, and retailers.

The miles collected can be used to obtain bonus tickets and many other travel-related rewards, such as upgrading from Economy Class to Business Class, entry to CSA lounges at airports, free overweight baggage, car hire, a lesson on a flight simulator, or a flight in a Czech Airlines Balloon.  Members of the OK Plus programme who have, in a calendar year, earned the requisite number of miles, or flown the requisite number of flight segments, can earn a Silver or Gold Card, which bring a number of additional advantages and comforts during air travel.

Interesting superlatives of the OK Plus programme:

  • One of the oldest airline loyalty programmes in Europe
  • One of the largest loyalty programmes in the Czech Republic
  • The largest number of miles collected reached 1,373,452, which affords 67 bonus return tickets in Europe, or 27 bonus return tickets to North America in Economy Class
  •  The youngest  programme member is 2 years old
  • The largest number of miles collected by one member in 2006 is 545,996, of which 294,311 miles were for flights with SkyTeam
  • The longest membership in the programme is 13 years – from 8 March 1994 (prior to that date, the rules were different: people could only enrol in the programme once they had flown 50,000 miles)
  • The oldest member of the programme is 97 years old
  •  Five programme members have the largest number of miles in their account (over 1 million)

For their flights, passengers obtain the actual number of miles flown, but a minimum of 500 on domestic flights and 1,000 miles on international routes.  Business class passengers earn twice that.  A bonus ticket can be obtained for as little as 15,000 miles.

Each new member receives an enrolment bonus of 2,000 miles, and can collect miles for flights flown with CSA up to 3 months prior to enrolment.  A novelty is a 1,000 mile bonus for choosing to receive account statements in electronic form.  As of this year, CSA also offers the possibility of obtaining 2,000 miles for recommending membership in the OK Plus programme to others.

Thanks to CSA’s membership in the SkyTeam alliance, the OK Plus programme enables clients to collect miles or use bonus tickets throughout the entire network of the alliance, whose ten members offer flights to 728 destinations, in 142 countries around the world.  This year, China Southern should join SkyTeam, which will further expand the alliance’s network.  Aside from interconnecting OK Plus with the China Southern loyalty programme, the incorporation of associate members into the alliance is planned - Kenya Airways, AirEurope, and Copa Airlines.  Programme members will thus be able to earn and use their miles and benefits in many new destinations around the world.

Aside from the OK Plus programme, which is designed for individuals, CSA also offers a similar programme for corporate customers - OK Plus Corporate.  Companies can thus collect points in a corporate account for their employees’ flights, and the employees, provided that they are OK Plus members, collect miles in their personal accounts.  The combination of both programmes is ideal for clients.  Furthermore, large companies have corporate agreements concluded with CSA, which assure them tailor-made conditions.  In most cases, they make use of special, advantageous prices for flights to specific destinations in the CSA network.
