27. 06. 2013 - Czech Airlines and Travel Service to Share Codes on Selected Scheduled Flights

Prague, 27 June 2013

Czech Airlines and Travel Service agreed on the mutual sharing of codes on selected scheduled flights. The code-sharing cooperation between the two airlines is only intended for transfer passengers heading from the Czech Airlines network to selected Travel Service destinations, and vice versa. Czech Airlines will have its OK code on 9 services operated by Travel Service under the SmartWings brand, while Travel Service will place its QS code on flights to 13 Czech Airlines destinations. Ticket sales will commence by the end of the week, and the offer will be available through the end of this summer season.

The cooperation is based solely on the offer being available to transfer clients who are making a transfer in Prague. Thanks to this, we can offer our passengers, primarily those from Eastern Europe, a whole number of seasonal summer destinations in popular seaside resorts. In addition to expanding and diversifying our sales offer, we are also expecting better utilisation of the capacity of our flights at a time when the demand on the part of business passengers is weaker,” said Jiří Marek, Czech Airlines’ Vice President for Sales and Marketing, adding: “Our cooperation in this area has a logical financial basis. At a time when the economies of most European Union member states are not performing well, which has an impact on demand for air travel, it is natural for us to not only think about atypical business opportunities, but to actually implement them over time.

This is mutually advantageous cooperation, of which the greatest beneficiary will be the passengers. Our long-term priority has been to expand the offer of destinations served by scheduled SmartWings flights, and this type of cooperation is one of the ways of achieving even greater utilisation of our aircrafts’ capacity and of offering our customers more comfortable connections to an extensive portfolio of destinations. This cooperation will undoubtedly contribute to the further development of Václav Havel Airport Prague and to an increase in the number of transfer passengers who will use Prague as a transfer point on their travels to an ever greater extent,” says Roman Vik, CEO of Travel Service.

Thanks to its new cooperation with Travel Service, Czech Airlines will add 9 summer-time destinations in Southern Europe to its current flight schedule: Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia in Spain, Heraklion and Thessalonica in Greece, Lamezia Terme and Naples in Italy, Larnaca in Cyprus, and Split in Croatia. The flights will be operated by Travel Service, and Czech Airlines will place its OK code on them. Tickets to these destinations will be available to clients travelling from any point in the Czech Airlines carriage network other than Prague.

In turn, Travel Service will include 13 scheduled flights operated by Czech Airlines in its flight schedule under its QS code: to Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Košice, Munich, Ostrava, Stockholm, Stuttgart and Warsaw. Travel to these destinations will be available exclusively to passengers commencing their travel at any point in the Travel Service network other than Prague.

The code-share cooperation between the two airlines does not concern the local market, i.e. trips originating or ending in Prague.

The new destinations will be included in the booking systems of both airlines today, and ticket sales will commence by the end of the week, including through the websites www.smartwings.com, www.csa.cz, and www.czechairlines.com.
