SkyTeam bolsters its winter services by expanding its network

As the cold air begins to settle in the Northern Hemisphere this winter, SkyTeam members have expanded their networks and will offer passengers service to new destinations including Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Khabarovsk, Russia as well as expanded frequencies to other popular destinations including Aruba, Grand Cayman and Montego Bay, Turks and Caicos. With numerous new routes and destinations across five continents, SkyTeam travelers now have more flexibility for planning their next vacation or business trip.

In response to passenger demand for additional warm weather destinations during the winter season, Delta Air Lines will increase nonstop service from its Atlanta hub to Aruba and Montego Bay starting 20 December 2008. These tropical hot spots are ideal for winter family getaways or a singles’ holiday vacation.  Delta is starting a host of new routes to Central and South America in December as well.  Delta will serve Tegucigalpa, Guayaquil, Manaus, Recife, and Fortaleza (via Recife) from Atlanta.  From JFK, Delta is adding Bogota and Buenos Aires**.

In Europe, SkyTeam now offers service to Oviedo via alliance member Air France. The commercial center of the Asturias region in northern Spain, Oviedo is home to rich pre-Romanesque architecture as characterized by its numerous churches and museums.

SkyTeam Member airline Korean Air boosted service by commencing thrice weekly flights between Incheon, Korea and Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Additionally, Korean Air also offers service three times a week between Incheon and Tel Aviv, further enhancing ease of travel between these two emerging business markets. Korean Air has also made popular U.S. tourist destinations more accessible by resuming service to Las Vegas and increasing flight frequency to Washington, D.C.

In its winter flight schedule, Czech Airlines amplifies service, primarily to the most sought-after destinations in Western Europe and Scandinavia as well as to a number of cities in Southeastern Europe. The member airline also significantly bolstered service on domestic routes to Brno and Ostrava.  During the winter flight schedule from 26 October 2008 to 28 March 2009, Czech Airlines, in cooperation with SkyTeam partners, offers scheduled service to 129 destinations in 44 countries. Within its own network, Czech Airlines’ service includes flights to 65 destinations in 40 countries.

Czech Airlines continues to operate flights to new destinations it initiated scheduled service to in its spring schedule.  One new flight will be added on the new route to Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia.  All of the other routes introduced this spring will continue without change – Strasbourg, Tbilisi, Damascus and Almaty. The only exception is service to Heraklion, Greece, which operates as a seasonal service.

SkyTeam now offers a new route from Chicago to Morelia, located in the heart of Mexico between Mexico City and Guadalajara, via alliance member Aeroméxico. Often referred to as the “City of Pink Stone,” Morelia’s style and urban architecture includes more than 1,000 historical buildings and sites, making it one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the Americas.  In South America, Continental Airlines will begin nonstop seasonal service between its Houston hub and exotic getaway, Rio de Janeiro.

Responding to consumer demand for expanded travel within one of the fastest growing economies, Russian carrier and SkyTeam member Aeroflot continues to serve Russian destinations Khabarovsk, Norilsk and Tyumen which were newly opened in summer 2008. With increased weekly frequencies from Moscow on 13 routes including Cairo, Dubai and Istanbul, Aeroflot has added a total of 67 new frequencies this winter season.  Serving 94 destinations in 47 countries this winter, Aeroflot has expanded its network to continually provide ease of access to its customers.

SkyTeam is proud to bring new high-quality service offerings to its customers each year, as members continue to expand their networks with routes to high-demand destinations.
