SkyTeam Celebrates Strong Performance in 2005 – SkyTeam member airlines enjoyed solid performances in 2005, as illustrated by a strong showing in the recently released World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) 2006 Edition top 50 ranking of airlines in terms of Scheduled Passengers – Carried (traffic) and Scheduled Passenger – Kilometers Flown (capacity).
In both categories, four out of the top 10 ranked airlines in the total (international plus domestic) classification are SkyTeam members, including Air France, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines. China Southern, who recently signed a Global Airline Alliance Adherence Agreement demonstrating its commitment to join the alliance was also ranked in the top 10 for Scheduled Passengers – Carried.
“SkyTeam’s performance in these rankings indicates the loyalty of our customers and our success in meeting their needs by providing the utmost in connectivity and service,” said Dominique Patry, chairman of the SkyTeam Steering Committee and vice president, International Affairs and Alliances at Air France. “SkyTeam leads other alliances in these rankings and we look forward to further strengthening our position as the customer-focused airline alliance throughout 2006.”
Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines also ranked in the top 10 for both international lists and Alitalia ranked in the top 10 for the international Scheduled Passengers – Carried category. Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines were included in the domestic lists for both categories. China Southern also made the top 10 on the domestic lists.
Compiled from data submissions of over 200 IATA Member airlines, WATS is an air transport industry reference digest containing analyses on individual airlines, as well as "top 50" rankings of the world's airlines in terms of passengers carried, passenger kilometers flown and other critical performance measures.
